The Basics

Is this game F2P-friendly?

Yes, very much so. Going by the CN server that's one year ahead, eventually you should be able to get practically every character without spending any money.

How long do the dailies take, is this a good side game?

Dailies are very quick in GFL2, you can be done in under five minutes. It's a good side game.

Is rerolling worth it?

Not really, you will be able to get every character eventually.

If you really like rerolling, or want to make the early game easier, you can go for Qiongjiu or Tololo from the Standard Banner, or Suomi from the Limited Banner. But there's no need to do that.

How do I borrow a friend's unit?

At the start of a battle, when selecting your dolls, click the 'Support' tab at the top right of your screen. You can select up to one doll from other commanders.

Note that some stages don't allow borrowing units (e.g. the Expansion Drills).

I don't understand some battle mechanics, is there a battle tutorial?

Yes, on the Campaign screen, click the Hunter Assessment button at the bottom left of your screen. It's a very comprehensive battle tutorial.

Umm, this is awkward, but I can't clear level V of the basic tutorial...

Here you go (aim at the purple circles).

Gacha

Should I spend crystals on the Standard banner to get the free character pick?

Do not spend any premium currency on the standard banner, only roll using tickets. Always use crystals on the limited banner. The standard banner is not going anywhere, and you will eventually get enough Standard tickets just by playing the game.

Does the pity carry over to the next limited banner?

Yes. All limited banners of the same type share the same pity, even if there are multiple running at the same time. The "coinflip" pity carries over as well—getting a non-rated-up doll always guarantees the next Elite doll to be rated-up, even if the Limited banner changes in the meantime.

Do we know what the next banner is?

No. While the CN server is one year ahead, Global doesn't follow the same release schedule.

Do limited characters or weapons enter the Standard Banner pool?

No. Once the Limited Banner is over, the limited girl or weapon will become unavailable until the banner is rerun.

Are banner reruns common?

They are pretty common, yes. If you missed a character, there will be more chances in the future.

Meta

Should I roll for [particular character]?

You don't need specific setups to clear the main story and other casual content. Roll for whoever you like. However, if you want to be optimal in harder content, or plan on tackling the ranked PvP (which is purely optional), read the rest of this section.

Should I roll for Makiatto?

Yes, Makiatto is very strong and one of the best single-target DPS. Getting at least one copy is a good idea.

Are Makiatto dupes or her signature weapon worth it?

If you don't mind rolling for dupes, I recommend going for v1 (i.e. one extra copy). It's by far her most important upgrade and vastly improves her DPS.

If you want to roll more after that, start with her signature weapon, which is another great upgrade for Makiatto. V2 would be next (it's solid but not as important as v1), and the next breakpoint after that is probably v6. So if you plan on whaling, I recommend stopping at v2 or going all the way to v6, since most of the in-between upgrades leave a bit to be desired.

Are any of the gold weapons from the Redundant Piece shop worth it?

Note that eventually, the Redundant Pieces should become tradable for gacha pulls. If you're f2p, waiting might be the better option for you.

As for the weapons, by far the best ones are Planeta (Tololo's best-in-slot) and Golden Melody (Qiongjiu's best-in-slot). They are also both great on Sharkry.

Apart from those two, the other weapons are not worth it in comparison. If you're spending a lot of money and like Lotta, the Heart Seeker can be a good choice for her, but other than that, just save your currency.

Who are the best dolls from the Standard Banner?

Qiongjiu and Tololo. They are great DPS dolls and can make progression much easier (whether that's a good thing or not is up to you). If you don't have either (and you're not f2p), I recommend getting Sharkry from the 0.99$ Standard Archive Gift Box from the shop.

Also, Sabrina (boss battles) and Peritya (dispatch boxes) are technically farmable, so don't pick them as the free doll for 260 Standard pulls (unless you really like them and need them NOW).

I bought the paid tier of the Battle Pass, what gold weapon should I get?

In a vacuum, the assault rifle is probably the best pick. The submachine gun and the blade are pretty solid too.

However, pick whatever you need the most at the moment. You can get one every month, so there's no need to overthink the choice too much.

Game Progression

What should I spend my stamina on?

Early game, focus on the main story and raising your characters. You will need a lot of Conductors from the Neural Survey (especially the high-tier ones), and the materials from the Supply Missions. Just enjoy the story and raise all the dolls you like.

When you start doing mid-level content like Peak Value Assessment, continue farming materials, and also get a set of attachments for every girl in your main team. Preferably the Phase Strike set. And preferably golden. But there's no need to lose sleep over attachments at this point.

And late game, you will spend practically all your stamina farming attachments. Welcome to the mines.

Which stages give the most Commander exp?

All of them give the same amount per stamina spent. If you need more commander exp and haven't finished the main story yet, the stages there give bonus exp for the first clear.

Do I ever need to use more than 4 dolls in a battle?

Yes. The higher level content like Peak and Expansion Drills uses one team of five dolls. High-tier boss fights use two teams of four dolls (eight total).

How do I get a character's Common Key?

You get the Common Key automatically after unlocking all Fixed Keys. There is no need to pay anything. The minimum character level to do this is 40.

The Helix keys are so expensive, what characters do I prioritize?

That's a tough question without a concrete answer. The Cores are a limited resource (make sure to get them in event shops and such), so it's a good thing to think this through.

The first thing to take into consideration is that for every 2 keys unlocked, the character will get a stat boost. Definitely unlock everything on your main DPS dolls.

Each girl can only have three keys equipped. So, for the dolls that you use but don't want to fully commit to them yet, consider only unlocking those three keys (or four, for the relatively cheap stat boost).

And, of course, unlocking all six Fixed Keys unlocks the Common Key, which you can use on any other character. If someone has a super strong Common Key, you'll have no other choice than to fully raise that character.

Campaign & Battle Modes

Should I upgrade my Boss Fight tier?

Yes, always. Even if you can't beat the next tier, you will still get tickets for a partial clear, and the base rewards are better the higher tier you are. In other words, trying the higher tier and failing will give better rewards than staying in the "safe" tier.

Any reason to try hard in Combat Exercise defense setups?

No. There is no point in winning defense in casual PvP. Just leave a single doll on defense so that others have an easier time clearing dailies, and look for people who did the same when attacking.

Do I need to clear the Peak Value Assessment every week?

No. You only need to clear each level once. After that, you can claim the "Periodic Returns" reward for that level every week without having to re-clear. Value!

Do I need to clear Expansion Drills every week?

It's about once every two weeks, but yes. However, there is a system that allows you to skip the first 6 stages, as long as you've cleared them at least once and you're higher level than them.

What is the Military Simulation?

Military Simulation is the ranked PvP mode of GFL2. You unlock it by achieving the Adept V rank in Combat Exercise (unranked PvP). It offers a small amount of rewards, but it's nothing to lose sleep over—if you don't enjoy GFL2 PvP, you can pretty much skip it. If you do enjoy it, this mode will probably be fun!

Dispatch room

Why can I not dispatch a doll?

You probably haven't done the Dispatch Assessment for her (at the bottom of the screen). You need to do the three missions and claim the Performance Rewards for each doll you want to use in dispatches.

Can I use dispatched dolls in missions?

Yes. Battles and dispatches are separate, and a doll can do both at the same time.

Should I convert my resources to Wishing Coins?

No, the value is bad. If all your characters are fully upgraded and you have nothing to spend Reports and Blueprints on then sure, but not before that.

I have enough mats, why can't I upgrade the dispatch room level?

You need more Dispatch Data (the yellow ^ symbol) first. You can get that by raising the affection of your girls. Every level of affection automatically gives Dispatch Data.

So how do I farm gifts for my characters, then?

There's no easy way, really. There are gifts in the weekly Dispatch Shop and Event shops, and you can randomly get some from doing any farming stages. No dedicated methods, though.

Is it better to raise affinity one by one, or spread the gifts evenly?

First, since affinity levels give personal stat boots, you should keep that in mind when planning your gifting sprees. Your main team will appreciate the extra stats.

If we're talking strictly Dispatch Room leveling efficiency, it's much better to spread the love evenly. At Affinity Level 1, it costs 840 Affinity points to get 10 Dispatch Data. At Affinity Level 4, it's 5880 per 40, so 1470 Affinity points to get 10 Dispatch Data.

Attachments

What attachment set should I farm?

The general recommendation is to farm the Phase Strike set for everyone, since it's generally good and you can use the set on any character.

If you like min-maxing, the elemental Boost sets can be slightly better on some DPS dolls, but Phase Strike is the safest choice.

What attachment stats are good?

For your DPS girls, you want to go full offense, so crit chance, crit damage, attack %, and flat attack.

For non-DPS girls, you'll have to look into their skills to see what they would most benefit from. Attack % and flat attack are solid on practically every doll, but supports will often like HP or DEF better than crit.

Why is the crit damage stat so rare on attachments?

It's not about rarity, it's just that only muzzles can roll it. The other three attachment types can't.

How does attachment calibration work?

You spend gold and attachment fodder to raise your attachment's stats. Each attachment can only have one active calibration setup, but you can reroll it as many times as you want (as long as you can pay).

When you calibrate an attachment, the game takes the base stat (white bar), rolls a random percentage up to 200%, and adds that to the base (orange bar for the calibrated stats). This is done separately for each stat.

For example, if an attachment has Attack +50 and Defense +50, the game could roll 200% for Attack and 100% for Defense, and the final stats would be Attack +150 and Defense +100. Rerolling would start from the base +50/+50 again.

When you reroll an attachment and the roll is bad, you can also choose to keep the original roll.

Can I visually hide an attachment?

Yes, simply apply a skin on the weapon, and then you can select an empty attachment skin.

For example, if you want to hide attachments from Planeta, select the weapon and apply a Planeta skin (i.e. a skin of the same gun). That will hide all attachments by default, or you can reselect the individual attachment skins.
