Umamusume Global Quickstart Guide

Looking to play Umamusume on the newly released Global server and don't want to start by reading long documents?
This is a short list of steps aiming to introduce the game (and the content of this website) in a quick manner!
1. Decide if the game idea is to your liking
Umamusume is a roguelite raising sim game with a racing theme. You will train uma musume (horsegirl characters) and sometimes compete against other trainers in this cute—but surprisingly deep—online game.
This game is also a gacha.
2. Download the game
Umamusume is currently available on PC (Steam) and mobile. Cross-platform play is supported, so you can play with one account on multiple platforms.
3. Learn how characters and supports work
Umamusume's gacha is separated into two sections, characters and support cards.
You probably know the concept of supports from other online games—supports, weapons, equipment, they take different forms in different games. In Umamusume, you will select 6 supports for your character before each run (5 of your own, 1 borrowed). They will provide stats, training events, and other bonuses.
Characters work a bit differently than in most gacha games. When you obtain a character, you basically get permission to use her in Career (the main game mode). After finishing a Career, your character's stats and skills will be snapshotted and saved to your collection. Only then can you use the character in PvP modes and other non-career content. You can train your characters as many times as you want, and save as many builds of them as you wish. This is the roguelite part of the game.
4. Reroll (if you want to)
Because this is a gacha game, some people will want to reroll, i.e. create new accounts until they get the characters or supports they want.
Rerolling is very easy. From the Start screen, click on the settings and delete your account data. After finishing tutorial once, you can skip it.
Remember to claim jewels from your inbox, and to roll on the Standard support banner.
Potential reroll targets are listed in the New Player FAQ. In general, you always want to reroll for support cards, never characters. If you really like a specific character, there should be one free SSR selector ticket available at launch, so you don't have to reroll for her.
5. Do the tutorial and explore the game
Finish the tutorial and try training one of the starting characters! If you're having trouble understanding some basic systems, you can read the Beginner's Guide I wrote for the Japanese server when it launched. The concepts are identical.
Honestly, at this point, explore the game at your own pace. The early game is really fun, and there's no need to minmax at this point. Just enjoy watching your horsegirls run!
6. Read the New Player FAQ
Do you understand how the game works, but several concepts are still confusing? Read the New Player FAQ article. If you want to, of course.
7. Join a Club
Clubs are the guild content of Umamusume. There are no downsides to being in one, and you get some extra rewards, so you should join one when you can.
8. Check the characters and supports
This website has comprehensive lists of all characters and supports!
Once you understand the game's mechanics, you can familiarize yourself with all the characters this game offers! You can also use the Compare Tool when looking for the ideal support card for your next run.
The character and support lists also allow you to use the "Show upcoming" function. Because the Global server is four years behind the Japanese one, there are years of foresight you can gain from checking the future characters.
9. Check the upcoming gacha banners
Speaking of future content, you can see every gacha banner in order as they happened on the Japanese server on the Gacha page. Make sure to change the website server setting to "Japan (Cygames)" in the top-right settings menu.
10. Check GameTora's tools
This website offers many tools, and two of them will hopefully be very useful to you throughout your trainer career!
The Training Event Helper allows you to select your character and supports, and will show all the potential random events that can happen during your training, including what choice gives what rewards.
The Compatibility Calculator helps you calculate compatibility between characters and select the best parents for your next run. This will help you avoid the △s!
11. Enjoy the game!
I hope you'll enjoy your time in the world of Umamusume!
