If you're new to the world of Umamusume (or haven't played in a while), this guide will try answering any basic questions you might have!

⚠️ This guide is new and being updated. During the first few days, more content will be added.

Should I reroll, and what to reroll for?

Umamusume rerolling is relatively fast, so it can be a good idea.

Unless your only reason for being here is to collect characters, you always want to reroll for support cards. They're far more important for the overall strength of your account than a single character could ever be. Furthermore, there is a free character selector ticket if you want a specific horsegirl.

As for concrete reroll targets, Fine Motion and Super Creek are popular options. Aim for at least one of them (if you get more than one copy, even better). More in the next section.

Reroll on the Standard support banner.

What support cards are good?

The first thing to realize is that support dupes can be very, very strong in this game. A MLB SR card will be stronger than most SSR cards at 0LB.

Note: If you didn't understand the previous line, the community often uses terminology like 0LB (i.e., a card with no duplicates) or 4LB/MLB (maximum limit break, card upgraded by four duplicates).

However, there are a couple of early SSR supports worth your attention, even if you're not planning on throwing piles of money at the screen. This is even more relevant at launch, because some of the stronger SR supports are not available yet.

Kitasan

Kitasan Black, the one and only. The most significant meta card during the first year. If you care about meta at all and you're just starting, reroll for her (the banner is up right now). You don't HAVE to, of course; but if you don't, you'll be stuck borrowing her in every single deck for a very long time.

Great picks

Fine Motion is one of the two most popular reroll targets early on. Not only is she usable immediately at 0LB, but she stays relevant for a relatively long time, making her a good investment. She gets noticeably better with every dupe, too.
Super Creek is the other most popular pick. She's a staple for medium and long distance umas early on, because of her guaranteed stamina skill. Stat-wise, she's a bit weak at 0LB, so if you can eventually get one extra copy for the Stamina Bonus at 1LB, even better.

Other options

Biko Pegasus is not a primary reroll target, but she's a nice bonus if you can roll her in addition to Super Creek or Fine Motion. The other two SSR Speed cards (Sakura Bakushin O and Tokai Teio) can also help early on. All three of them get noticeably stronger at 1LB.

What about Tazuna?

Tazuna Hayakawa is a very strong card with two problems. The first issue is that she needs at least 2LB, preferably more; second one is that she falls out of meta relatively early. If you don't know what to do with money, go for it. Everyone else should borrow her when needed instead.

What characters are good?

Whoever you like, really. While some characters are slightly "more meta" than others, you will not brick your account by using your favorites.

That's why you shouldn't reroll for characters, but for supports, as they're much more significant. Also, we should be getting a free SSR character pick ticket relatively early on, so you won't miss out on your favorite uma. You will also get a random SSR ticket, so make sure to roll that one first (because it's random), and use the pick ticket afterward.

While rerolling for characters is not a good idea, doing about ~50 rolls on the character banner afterward can be worth it. That should give you all the 1* and 2* characters in the game, making your training pool more varied.

If you really have no idea who you want for your pick ticket, these are some potential options at release:

Oguri Cap is arguably the strongest character at release. She's the ultimate all-rounder who can be used everywhere except sprint races.
Maruzensky is another all-rounder who can do all content to some degree.
Taiki Shuttle is a Dirt race specialist, and those can be hard to come by, especially early on.

What should I prioritize during a Career?

There are two important things to realize:

  • Raising the friendship gauge of your supports to orange (80 points) makes subsequent training with them glow rainbow, giving extra stats.
  • Training four times in the same facility levels it up, giving more stats on subsequent training.

Note: Training on a facility with supports gives each of the supports +7 to their friendship gauge. If they have a hint (exclamation mark), it's +5 gauge. The Charming status adds another +2.

At the start of a Career, it's crucial to focus on leveling up the friendship gauges of your supports, and prioritize that over getting raw stats. However, don't forget that facilities level up! When the choices are more or less equal, pick the facility you want to focus on. Wit training is also good, because it doesn't consume energy.

If your energy is low, rest.

When most of your supports have an orange friendship gauge, you can switch focus to raising stats through rainbow training. If there's a rainbow training, just do it (as long as you have enough energy).

If there are no rainbows, you can do several things, but generally you want to do an optional race. Racing is good, and if it's a G1 race, even better. If there are no suitable races, you can also train Wit.

If your mood is yellow or worse, you can also do Recreation.

If a negative status effect is literally ruining your Career, it's a good idea to go to the Infirmary. However, don't feel pressured to heal everything right away.

How much Stamina do I need?

It depends on what distance you're building for. Longer races will need more stamina.

Additionally, Front Runners and Pace Chasers require a bit more stamina than the other two strategies. Bad track conditions also affect stamina spent.

During a Career, your trainee has a hidden stat bonus. These are relatively safe thresholds:

DistanceStamina
Sprint150
Mile350
Medium500
Long600+

Note that these stats are meant for very late parts of the Career. Earlier, you can get by with much less, because your opponents' builds won't have enough stamina either.

If you can trigger a Stamina recovery skill during the race, it will lower the total Stamina needed. Each gold rarity (i.e. upgraded) recovery skill will lower the threshold by about 200.

When training for PvP modes outside of Career, you will need much more Stamina. Some of the longer distances straight up require recovery skills.

For PvP modes, the table would look something like this:

DistanceStamina
Sprint550
Mile750
Medium1100
Long (2500m)1350
Long (3200m)1500

As you can see, it's not possible to sustain very long distances without recovery skills. For each gold recovery skill you can trigger (and the chance is never 100%), subtract about 200 from the number for non-Long distances, and about 240 for Long distances.

For Front Runners and Pace Chasers, add about 5%, as they don't spend stamina as optimally as Late Surgers and End Closers.

If the race you're preparing for has bad track conditions, add about 2% more.

The table assumes around ~500 Guts. If you have more, you can get away with slightly less Stamina.
